Earth
Overview
Earth is the Terran homeworld. It is the third planet from the sun in its solar sytsem. It has a single moon, which is referred to simply as 'the '. Earth is approximately 71% water. The planet is heavily polluted, but has a huge variety of ecosystems, spread in small areas throughout it surface. These areas are separated by giant areas of wastelands due to nuclear weapons, toxic waste, ozone depleation, and similar types of pollution. Earth is made up of 6 continents: Antarctica, America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
Mega-Corporations
Governments no longer exist on Earth. Instead, the world is controlled by 14 mega-corporations, all of which control different areas of the globe, mapped out by . The largest of these are the Tri-Alliance Company Soft (), the Corporation, Jordon & Jordon (), and Deus Express (). While it is theoretically possible for new corporations to come up, other corporations are generally quick to stomp them out as soon as they emerge.

TriCoSoft resulted when three large software companies merged. After spreading internationally, and pulling from a world-wide workforce, they managed to either incorporate or ruthlessly eliminate all competition and soon became a monopoly in software development. The corporation later expanded to large-scale engineering projects (such as the biosphere project - a self-sufficient, self-contained environment). Shortly after the third world war, during the beginning of government collapse, TriCoSoft had enough power to not only protect itself during the chaos through use of their security force, and cyber-warfare, but they were also capable of taking advantage of the situation, taking hold of territory that would become the largest control grid. They are one of the most powerful of all mega-corporations, and are strongest in work in software development, cybernetics, and space colonization technologies. They are responsible for the lunar colonies on the , and were one of the leading developers in controlled anti-matter technologies.

The McRonalds Corporation began as a fast food franchise, and shortly before World War III, they were one of the leading controllers of food resources on the globe. Despite the fact they were breaking countless laws concerning business practices, their near-total control over an obviously needed resource gave them the leverage necessary to push past any government attempts at controlling them. After the war, in the chaotic situation, they were able to regain their previous hold, and although they were heavily damaged by the war and anarchy, they soon managed to grow more powerful and grew to become one of the most influential of all corporations. Today, they are one of the weakest companies financially due to extensive resources devoted to protecting themselves from others. However, they have the greatest military presence of any of the corporations, and they control not only virtually all food sources, but most of the few remaining natural resources left on Earth, such as coal, metals, and wood. They are responsible for most terraforming and resource extraction technologies that are used on other planets.

Jordon & Jordon is one of the few corporate entities that simply worked its way to the top more or less honestly. They are responsible for a vast array of simple, yet incredibly useful things, such as popular types of adhesive tape. Later, they became giants within the medical field. When World War III occured, they were the main suppliers of medical and general supplies. While they were far from powerful, the disasters that occured during and after the war put their abilities and workforce in the medical field in high demand, and also put them in an extremely good light as everyone benefitted from their services. Jordon & Jordon continues to make simple, useful things, as well as excelling in medical research. They are responsible for some advancements in cybernetics, and completely mapping the workings of the brain, as well as the genome. They also serve to help identify TR (threat rating) numbers for various diseases, illnesses, syndromes, and effects based off of analyzing genetic makeup. A full TR report is standardly required in order to work in any corporation. Nearly all medical personel are trained at JNJ academies, and those who pass these academies are considered the best you can get. Thus, JNJ maintains its foothold by simply providing services all other corporations need, and doing it better and with less cost than anyone else could themselves.

Deus Express began merely as a transportation and delivery coporation (although a very large one). Their services extended to digital information transfers, and due to their expertise in cryptography, even to this day, there is not a single known instance of any message they were given being successfully intercepted, and not once have they been known to break the trust of those giving them anything to deliever, whether it be digital or physical. When World War III began, they continued business as usual, reliably delivering and transporting things. However, they soon began to be targetted by certain governments who tried to intercept other government information being transferred through DeusEx. The barrage of cyber attacks, however, failed terribly. These governments then turned to military means, both openly and covertly, in an attempt to obtain information. Ironically, these all failed as well. However, all of this greatly injured DeusEx, nearly causing its downfall. This changed when one day, the owner, out of ideas, desperately gambled everything he had throughout one night, and through some strange streak of luck, ended up being able to save the corporation. Not only that, but DeusEx became one of the richest corporations, literally overnight. This allowed them to survive until the establishment of corporate rule. While they are the weakest of the four top mega-corporations, DeusEx continues to act as a transportation and delivery service, and has also become the leader in transportation technologies. They are responsible for the invention of the drive, instantaneous communications across any distance, and a vast array of other crytographic and communications advancements.
Control Grids
Earth is divided up into a total of 56 control grids of different sizes and shapes. 14 of them are controlled by each of the mega-corporations, with one being assigned to each. 42 of them are considered neutral ground of open commerce where one can buy space from the previous owners (which range from corporate to privately owned places, like your average Chinese food restraunt), and establish outposts. These areas often end up resembling a mall, except that when a space become open, whoever grabs and secures it first gets the spot. While in theory, every corporation is supposed to protect these blocks, most do not because they won't be blamed any more than any of the other companies if something goes wrong, and it is of little profit to them to protect anything besides their own establishments. As a result, crime is extremely high in these areas and while most need to go to these areas for work, commuting, or simply buying supplies not available in their own grid, doing so is a risky business.

Spaces in open grids are extremely expensive. However, to prevent a single corporation from gobbling up an entire grid, there are strict guidelines of the percent a single entity can take. Anyone breaking this is subject to enforcement (by whatever means deemed necessary) by all other corporations.

Coroporate controlled grids have the base of their individual corporations within them. All facilities needed by the corporation are within these grids. Residential areas are also provided for more important employees, and anyone who can afford the steep price of living within one of these grids. Anyone within a grid enjoys the maintained area, as well as a living residence, public services, water, basic rations, electricity, education, and virtually all other essentials for life. Most importantly, though, each grid is rigidly protected by a giant corporation, which means that there is less crime, and if someone attacks, you are in the same place as the heart of the corporation. That means that they'll be doing everything they possibly can to keep themselves (and in effect, you) safe. However, depending on which corporation controls the grid, various resources and services may not be present. These must be found either in another corporate grid (which requires an extremely expensive pass to get into it), or a trip to the dangerous open grids.
Socio-Economic State
Earth is more or less a dystopia. Society is a study of corruption, extremes, and excess . While technology is advanced and cheap, leading to nearly everyone getting cybernetic modifications, most people are in poor situations controlled completely by one corporation or another. When it isn't in the corporation's economically interests to do something for the people, they won't. And neither will anyone else. They're too busy worrying about surviving themselves. Unfortunately, allowing for more human rights and services than absolutely required insn't in a company's best interest. While those who are able to live in corporate are not as badly off, the rest, who live in open grids, are not so lucky. Violence and anarchy is commmonplace. Natural resources have been all but depleated and overpopulation is a major issue. To maintain its workforce, corporations have made off-world transport extremely difficult, and extremely expensive. While it is highly desired, and just about anyone would kill to get a chance at leaving the planet, few ever have the chance.
Currency
The Terran currency is completely digitized, although it can be transferred physically through use of credit chips. The unit of currency is the credit.
