Notes
  • If you haven't read up to the current page of Shards, this section may contain spoilers.
  • This section also only represents supplemental information and stuff you're supposed to know or believe at the time. This means that if I haven't revealed that Darth Vooder is Luke Skyfaller's father instead of a dirt farmer, then until I do, this section will say that Luke Skyfaller's father is a dirt farmer.
Major Characters
Artalis
Species  :  Kha'rlar (Domestic Cat)
Sex  :  Male
Eyes  :
Hair  :  Orange
Height  :  5'3"
Age  :  6 Kha'rlari Years (5 Terran Years)
Date of Birth  :  35/736 (Kha'rlari Calendar)

Artalis was born in southeastern Ternari in one of the largest cities of the continent. Most often found simply observing others, he is extremely quiet, distant, and rarely shows much emotion. Despite that, he is often curious about little things, and as best as one can tell, seems to derive much amusement from the simple things in life that most others don't pay attention to.

Strangely, expression of emotions and thoughts is very important to Artalis. Usually, though, he expresses them in quiet, very subtle symbolic ways that would be virtually impossible for anyone else to understand. Many of the odd things he does or nicknacks he keeps are purely for the symbolic emotional connection.

Artalis is a great appreciator of art and music due to the fact they express emotion - something he doesn't seem to do very often himself. During his free time, he occasionally paints, although he's not terribly good at it. Sometimes, though, his paintings can be surprisingly expressive. Other than that, he spends the majority of his time alone, lost in thought.

Artalis is left-handed and has eidetic memory.
Chr'lyl (Cyber)
Species  :  Kha'rlar (Gray Wolf)
Sex  :  Male
Eyes  :  Blue
Hair  :  None
Height  :  5'6"
Age  :  6 Kha'rlari Years (5 Terran Years)
Date of Birth  :  121/736 (Kha'rlari Calendar)

Cyber is the youngest member of the crew. He grew up in southern Si'enta in a mixed city of various Kha'rlar who prefer colder climates. Even at a young age, he was very interested in technology and before the war with the Terrans, developed a great interest in Terran technology and culture - particularly the Internet (which the Kha'rlar also have, but don't use in the same social and entertainment sense), old movies, and their music, much to the despair of his parents. His interest in humans and the net prompted him to change his name to a Terran one. Unfortunately, since Kha'rlar don't have lips, in most cases he's the only one capable of saying his name correctly (and that, only after a lot of practice). Usually, it ends up coming out as "Cyger" or "Cyder".

Although social, he didn't actively seek out others and as such, spent much time alone and perfectly happy with his own little projects. It wasn't long before he became an extremely talented hacker. While he's best with Kha'rlari systems, he is still very much an expert with Terran computer systems by any standards.

Cyber tends to be creative, a very good problem-solver, and very onorthadox. While he usually hides his opinions when it doesn't affect him, he has a very low tolerance for incompetance (by his relatively high standards), and while he doesn't really consider himself above others, it sometimes comes across that way. He can be rather immature at times, and his sense of humour is usually geared to amuse himself more than others. More often than not, he's the only one that's amused. Socially, he is often very awkward (and ridiculously untactful) and usually quite diferential. When it comes to something he's good at, however, he tends to take charge (or rather, try to get everyone to get out of the way while he does it himself). During these times, he can be annoyingly confident, although it is nearly always justified.

Cyber spends most of his time on the computer, watching movies, absorbing giant technical manuals, chatting on the Internet, and playing Doku, a Kha'rlari sport that is something like a mix of volleyball, basketball, soccer, and racketball, all played at extremely high speeds. While he doesn't think it's very important, he is extremely good at Doku and enjoys playing it quite often.

After having to leave the homeworld, Cyber's grown more quiet, nervous, and a little paranoid about the stability of the world around him. Of all the members of the crew, he seems to be having the most difficulty coping with the loss.
Khrn'daer
Species  :  Kha'rlar (Leopard)
Sex  :  Male
Eyes  :  Brown
Hair  :  White
Height  :  5'9"
Age  :  17 Kha'rlari Years (14 Terran Years)
Date of Birth  :  265/724 (Kha'rlari Calendar)

Khrn'daer is the second-youngest child of the Kharn family, and the younger brother of Kahn'mahri. He comes from a family with a long, proud military history, although his father, during an investigation regarding his death, was found to have been involved in criminal activity along with some Kha'rlari space pirates. Khrn'daer himself joined the Kha'rlari military along with Kahn'mahri at a young age, and, determined to repair the family name, pushed himself extremely hard, completely ignoring the prejudice again both he and his brother. He has succeeded in gaining the respect of those around him and has achieved the rank of Commander.

Khrn'daer has extensive experience with squad-level tactics, and is a natural leader, excellent tactician, and a fair strategist. He is highly disciplined, sensible, and (often overly) serious, although he's not without his own sort of dry humour. He is well-known for, and takes pride in being able to keep a cool head in just about any situation. He is highly protective of those under his command.
Yahl'assi
Species  :  Kha'rlar (Cheetah)
Sex  :  Female
Eyes  :  Green
Hair  :  Yellow
Height  :  5'4"
Age  :  6 Kha'rlari Years (5 Terran Years)
Date of Birth  :  114/736 (Kha'rlari Calendar)

Yahl'assi was a part-time member of Khrn'daer's team, acting as their pilot when her services were needed. However, she's come to know Khrn'daer pretty well, although neither of them consider the other more than just a good aquaintance at the time. Yahl'assi grew up in central Ternari in a mostly feline forest village bordering the grasslands with an adoptive family (both parents being leopards) after her mother died. Her biological fathers, being old-fashioned, didn't stick around to help raise her, although this is fairly normal among cheetahs. After discovering her true love in life (flying), she joined the Kha'rlari military at the extremely young age of 3 (in Kha'rlari years). Since the military rarely does anything overly dangerous in normal circumstances, and because she'd merely be in training, her parents supported her fully. This was shortly before the war began. Once the war started, she didn't actually take part as she was considered too young. However, since she literally was the best pilot there was, despite her age, they allowed it when she insisted that she help (which she now claims she did just so she could have more time in the air).

At first, she simply did transport runs but after accidentally running into a small battle and managing to take down two small Terran ships with an unarmed, unarmoured cargo ship, Khrn'daer requested that she be made available for his team when they had missions that would require a good pilot.

Yahl'assi seems to constantly treat life as a game full of fun challenges, even when losing that challenge would result in the death of her and everyone around her. It's not unusual for her to be joking or having discussions about the last book she found while dodging homing missiles in an astroid field. Sometimes, though, she tends to be far too carefree, although whether this is due to some wierd quirk or complete obliviousness of the severity of the situation is left to be seen. This can often go to a point of being just plain frustrating for others, but somehow, it tends to come off as cute more than anything else, despite the fact she seems to make efforts to not seem cute (which usually backfires). Like with her flying, she takes everything at full speed and life seems to go a little too slowly for her.

While she can act a bit immature at times, she seems to have a remarkable emotional intelligence and while she doesn't always know what to do with the information, she seems to have a knack for just knowing what others are feeling.

During her spare time, she listens to music, reads lots of books, watches movies, and acts pretty much like your typical teen. While she can usually be found in standard military clothing and a flight vest, when she isn't flying, she seems to always have a different outfit (which would appear to defy possibility when how she packs so much is considered). Her fashion sense is varied, often essentric, and sometimes just plain bad. However, she's never seen without her necklace with its green stone, which she claims is the secret to her skill with flying.
Minor Characters
Aleksei Sviatoslavich Petrov
Species  :  Human
Sex  :  Male
Eyes  :  Blue
Hair  :  Gray (Brown)
Height  :  6'1"
Age  :  52 Terran Years
Date of Birth  :  2/19/2061

Aleksei Sviatoslavich Petrov was born, not surprisingly, in a control grid within what was formerly Moscow, Russia. He grew up within the corporate grid and was a student of philosophy and literature. Later, blinded by idealistic visions and corporate propaganda, he joined the McRonalds military. While his faith in the higher powers didn't survive, he remained in the military, hoping to make a difference, and in time, worked his way up to becoming a general. He was in command during the final assault on Jalnar that lead to the deaths of most of the Kha'rlari race.

General Petrov is a both compassionate, and tough-as-nails. He has very little tolerance for any amount of wishy-washiness in ethics and character, or those who try to avoid taking responsibility for their actions and accepting the consequences, whatever they may be. While he continues to have his ideals, he also don't let ethics stop him from completing what he feels must be done. Unlike many, he refuses to comfort himself with the lies and excuses that are constantly broadcasted by the corporation. He is also one of the few that usually knows enough of the story to not be fooled by them. He is a strong believer in going into things with both eyes open, and, at least as much as possible within the deception-based organization, he is completely aware of the evil he is helping accomplish under the Tier directives of the McRonalds Corporation.

While his morals often do not coincide with the orders he is given, he believes in law and order above all else, and his faith in those things result in him following orders regardless of his personal beliefs. However, when he can work within the system, he often tries to fight for the ideals that, in the first place, brought him to where he is. This, however, has caused much tension between himself and the Teir.

General Petrov is an appreciator of opera, and enjoys reading classic literature when he has free time.
Ma'rar
Species  :  Kha'rlar (Red Fox)
Sex  :  Male
Eyes  :  Blue
Hair  :  Red
Height  :  5'7"
Age  :  12 Kha'rlari Years (10 Terran Years)
Date of Birth  :  263/729 (Kha'rlari Calendar)

Ma'rar grew up in western Ternari, almost completely among other foxes with little contact with others. He joined the military after the war began in order to try to help protect his clan. While green, he's quite capable and tends work well under pressure. However, even if he doesn't act rashly, he has a hard time keeping emotionally distant. He usually just cares too much about everyone, and seeing so many people (both Kha'rlar and Terran) die - especially those simply caught in colateral damage - has taken its toll. Internally, Ma'rar is rather strained, but he always does the job and seems to draw strength from being with others he works with.

While serious when it comes to doing what he needs to, Ma'rar has a rather large mischievous streak that he usually manages to keep under control. He seems to be unable to resist making jokes at not-so-funny times (especially near-death) when it doesn't interfere with anything, though. Then again, it's just his way of dealing with stress.
Deceased
Kahn'mahri
Species  :  Kha'rlar (Leopard)
Sex  :  Male
Eyes  :  Brown
Hair  :  White
Height  :  5'10"
Age  :  19 Kha'rlari Years (16 Terran Years)
Date of Birth  :  314/722 (Kha'rlari Calendar)

Kahn'mahri is the eldest child of the Kharn family, and the older brother of Khrn'daer. He joined the Kha'rlari military at the same time as Khrn'daer (although Khrn'daer outranks him). Unlike his younger brother, he is much more laid back and tends to view most things with a good dose of humour. His little brother's seriousness and professionalism is a constant source of amusement for Kahn'mahri since he tends to view Khrn'daer through 17 years of growing up together (which includes Khrn'daer being equally serious (or trying to be) when arranging who gets to play with what toy at what time).

Kahn'mahri does make an effort not to embarass his brother about such things, though. Still, he's never stopped being a big brother to Khrn'daer in his own subtle ways. Recognizing the high expectations Khrn'daer had on himself, as well as the little competitive streak that his little brother probably isn't even aware of himself, Kahn'mahri has always made a point to make sure Khrn'daer never has to feel like he's living in the shadow of his older brother.

While quite charismatic, social, and popular, Kahn'mahri is a quiet intellectual at heart and spends much of his free time reading or sitting in trees thinking.

Kahn'mahri was killed on the 159th day of the year 742 trying to evacuate Kha'rlar during the final Terran bombardment on Jalnar.
